The Esoteric London Research Desk provides verified venue dossiers, primary-source citations and on-site verification drawn from a proprietary catalogue of 612 sites — only 41% of which appear on any commercial map. Commissioned by feature writers, podcasters, location scouts, academics and documentary producers since 2017.
Scope of Work
Every commission returns four concrete artefacts. You will know, before we begin, exactly what lands in your inbox.
A 2,500–6,000-word document per site: address, OS grid reference, current access status, ownership, conservation grade, and a plain-English narrative of the building's esoteric history cross-checked against the Greater London Sites & Monuments Record.
Every claim footnoted to its origin — meeting minutes, archival correspondence, period press, parish registers, or published scholarship from the Warburg, the Guildhall Library and our partnership with the Royal Archives at Kew.
High-resolution scans with full provenance: photographer, archive, date, catalogue reference. Licensed for editorial use within your project scope, with usage terms stated in writing before delivery.
Where a site has changed hands or fallen into disuse, one of our six CML-certified guides physically re-visits, photographs and re-checks the current condition before the dossier ships. We do not republish 2014 fieldwork as 2026 evidence.

Esoteric London's catalogue is, in scope and rigour, the closest working parallel to the Warburg's London Iconographic Survey that I have encountered in two decades of teaching on the city's occult history. It is the desk I direct postgraduate researchers to first.

For Feature Writers
Tell us the article angle and the publication date. We return a 2,500-word dossier, three plates, and a 30-minute call with the lead researcher — usually within six working days. Past commissions have run for The Times, Apollo, National Geographic Traveller and Atlas Obscura.
For Podcasters & Broadcasters
Six of our staff are trained broadcast contributors with experience of BBC Radio 4, LBC and long-form independent podcasts. We supply the subject — alchemical London, Victorian spiritualism, the Rosicrucian trail — and the citations your producer can fact-check in advance. We will sign a release for any editorial briefing.
For Academics & Postgraduates
We supply archival references with full shelfmarks — Guildhall Library, Lambeth Palace, the Royal Archives at Kew — formatted to your house style (MHRA, Chicago, Harvard). Our partnership with the Freemasons' Hall Library opens material usually reserved for lodge members; we mediate access on a case-by-case basis with written permission.
For Film, TV & Location Scouts
Filming access is brokered, not improvised. We deliver a location brief with owner contacts, interior photography under permit, and a one-page historical "truth sheet" so your art department can dress the room accurately. We have supported documentaries for the BBC, Channel 5 and three independent features since 2019.
