London Labour and the London Poor – Henry Mayhew, 1851, 1861-2:
Housebreakers and Burglars – John Binny
One night I went to an Irish penny ball in St. Giles‘s, and had a dance with a young Irish girl of about nineteen years of age. This was the first time she saw me. I was a good dancer, and she was much pleased with me. She was a beautiful and handsome girl – a costermonger, and a good dancer. We went out and had some intoxicating liquor, which she had not been used to.
Great Post, lovely picture
