I recently took a walk along Foster Lane in the City to photograph the memorial that marks the site of the first bomb to fall on the City of London in WWII. Reaching Roman House, the building on which the stone memorial sits, I could see that it was being refurbished and that the memorial had either been removed or covered for protection during the works. Where it should have been a plain white board with a photograph of the memorial attached was in its place, as can be seen above. I hope that when Berkeley Homes have finished working on the building that the stone will be restored to its rightful place where it can remind the passerby of that dreadful lunch time on 25th August 1940. R.D.
