The once common sight of a cloud, or murmuration, of up to 100,000 starlings wheeling and swooping in unison over the roof tops of London has now virtually disappeared. The starling population is apparently on the verge of collapse in the capitol and the days when the sheer number of the birds perched on the hands of Big Ben stopped the clock in its tracks may sadly be gone forever.
