The above photograph shows some early graffiti on the exterior wall of St. Paul’s the fine parish church of Upper Deptford designed by Thomas Archer and consecrated in 1730. It is said that early botanists discovered the species Dianthus armeria within the parish resulting in the now endangered plant becoming known as Deptford Pink. R.D.
